The MOSS Search Engine gives a lot of really powerful features for us. Let’s see a few options, how can we set very useful search pages. First of all, we can define several types of content sources:
- SharePoint site
- web site (everywhere in the world)
- File Share
- Exchange Public Folder
- Business Data
For example, if you want to index my blog site in SharePoint, just define a Web site type content source, with URL of http://dotneteers.net/blogs/aghy. For example, with a hourly update scheduling you’ll be notified about recent changes in every hour. After that, we have to set the search scopes, to make usable this content source. This scope can be based several rules: the most important ones are Property Query (see below), and the Content Source. In this case, we’ll use Content Source option, and select the web site just created (AghyBlog).
After that, we can start to use this scope on our sites. Let’s go! First of all, we can add it to the Search box. Just go to the Site Collection administration, select “Search Scopes”. Here you can find the Search box settings, and can add the new scope. The result is the following:
After that you’re able to use the new scope on your sites.
